Do’s and Dont’s for legion members:

  • Gavel:  Rapping the gavel 3 times is a command to stand.  Rapping the gavel once is a command to sit (or remain seated if rapped once during the meeting)
  • Caps are worn during the meeting except for prayers, pledge of allegiance, and POW/MIA ceremony.
  • Caps are not worn while eating.  Custom in the American Legion is that if you are caught wearing a hat while eating, another member can demand a dollar!
  • Caps are not worn outside during inclement weather unless during a ceremonial activity.
  • Turn off cell phone during a meeting unless you are on call for emergencies.  Our post levies a $5.00 fine for violation.
  • Use proper language. Cussing will cost you $1.00.
  • If you need to take something to the head table, approach from the rear.  Do not split the flags, go around a flag to the rear of the table.
